In the Bristol suburb of Arnos Vale in Bristol, past rows of weathered gravestones and a winged Victorian angel, stands something wholly unexpected: a small Hindu-style chattri.
Carved in Bath stone, the chattri rests on a high plinth, its twelve columns arranged in a square to support the delicately vaulted canopy above.
Each column is banded and fluted, their capitals adorned with simplified lotuses, while the beams above them carry a restrained frieze of geometric carving.
